Taipei is an incredibly family-friendly destination, though figuring out the best activities for kids isn’t always straightforward. After spending a memorable month in Taipei with our family, we’ve compiled a list of the top activities that we believe families, particularly those with young children, will enjoy. As parents of two toddlers, we know that you can never have too many ideas for how to keep them entertained. Whether you’re looking for cultural experiences, outdoor fun, or interactive learning, our list has something that will capture the imagination of everyone in your family.
6. Riding race cars around Yuanshan park
There is an expo center with a big, open space that is perfect for racing cars around. The cars are FAST, as you may have noticed from Mack’s face while Ray was speeding around.
You’ll want to pay close attention so your kids don’t crash into anything. Fortunately, the cars come with a remote control that can override the onboard system so you can take control of the car at any time.
How to get there: Hop on the red line towards Tamsui and get off at Yuanshan. Then head over to the expo center and you’ll find it in the back corner.
Cost: The prices starts at 200NT (~$6 USD) for 30 minutes, depending on the model. I think ours might have been 250NT because we sprung for the corvette. They also had a Mercedes G-wagon that was quite popular.
Also in the area you’ll find the modern art museum and a small market in the park where we enjoyed live music and some snacks.
5. Taipei Fine Art Museum
Basically a five-minute walk from our first recommendation, this place balances the needs of the adults in learning about something new, and the kids’ desire for fun! Learning while having fun – that is the best thing about traveling actually in our opinion! Also, what’s not to love about museums? Museums are always some of the first places we check out when we visit places because we like how telling they can be about the local cultures – even better if they have a kids section catered for young children.
The first thing we did when entering into the museum was to check out their kids section which is at the lower part of the building. Not much crowd when we visit and the space is appreciated by the parents because everyone can run around as they desire. Ray and Mack’s favorite though is the board figure game where you can imprint your body against the plastic nails on the wall – we had a hard time leaving after we started on that one 😂
4. National Taiwan Museum’s Railway Department Park
The winning points of this museum are its:
👍Close proximity to the metro 🚈 – very accessible and central location
👍Interactive displays
👍Very affordable tickets (If we remember correctly it is less than
👍 Both adults and kids had fun
📍: National Taiwan Museum – Railway Department Park
Save this for your next visit to Taiwan with kids and keep following for our upcoming recommendations 🥰 They just keep getting better and better! ☺️
3. Ximenting
Note: this place is walking distance from our #8 recommendation – so you should totally batch them together into a day if you are planning ahead of time 😎
How to get there: It’s easy to get by metro on the blue or green line, or you can walk there from Taipei Main Station in about 15 minutes.
When to go: At night! Or at least during the evening. That’s when all the action is there and it’s a lot more fun with the crowds, shows and street food. During the day you can go to the shops but the streets will be more empty with less going on (unless it’s a weekend!)
What to do: Ximending is a vibe. You can just walk around and randomly explore! Some fun things to do are eat, shop, play claw games and also we always go to shave ice at 3 Siblings shave ice, where you can sign your name on the wall.
2. Child-Parent Play Centers around Taipei
This is one we were especially excited to share🎉
#6 is to visit the Child-Parent Play Centers around Taipei.
Now you may be thinking: I didn’t travel all the way to Taiwan just to play with toys with my kid.
Well, think again. It’s a great cultural exchange as they have unique activities, toys and the opportunity to connect with local kids and parents. It’s super cool.
Where are they?
Located all over Taipei! The one in this video is the 📍Zhongzheng Parent-Child Play Center, but you can just search on Google Maps to see more locations and hours. You’ll notice that there are breaks in the open times and that’s so they can clean and get ready for the next session.
Who is it for?
Everyone! Well, basically. Locals and visitors alike are welcome and they’re best suited for around age 0-5.
Have you been before? What do you think about Child-Parent play centers?
1. Taipei Zoo
Did you know that the Taipei Zoo is actually 4x larger than the San Diego zoo?? But it costs a tiny fraction of the price (1/25th, actually!)
Here’s everything you need to know about visiting the Taipei Zoo:
How to get there – From Taipei Main Station, take the blue line two stops to Zhongxiao Fuxing. Then take the Wenhu line until the end! (About 20 mins)
Cost – 100NT, 50NT for students
Hours – 9-5 most days but closed the latter part of June. On Saturdays in July and August it’s open until 9PM!
Hope you enjoy the zoo as much as we did! It’s built on a mountain and there is a train you can take to the top and then make your way down. It costs 5NT (about 15 cents USD) and you can use your metro card to pay for it.
